MOMI: Museum of the Moving Image
I'm a fan of different genres of movies. If the plot sounds decent, I'll watch it. To see how things look behind the scenes, priceless! I started out watching the Freddy Kruger movies in the fifth grade. Mind you, I went to a private Christian School but, we managed to watch a few horror flicks during class time here and there. The part of the tour I was waiting to see was the props used in various horror and sci-fi movies like, "Nightmare on Elm Street." I liked how the tour guide told us, that in the fifth installment I believe, they used a big sized Kruger sweater that was shredded up, and the actors would stand in the big hole in the middle to look like they were trying to escape out Freddy's stomach. The most I found interesting with the MOMI trip was the Titanic demo. That is a great film! At one point when you heard the sound of the steel pillar coming down about to crash in the water, trying to make out the sound was hard to tell at first. It sounded like a train passing by at first but, it was really an elephant. I liked how each sound was examined, and we learned what objects they used to produce the foreground, and background sounds in the film. Another part I liked, was when we entered into the sound booth, and did the funny exercise of the Coming to America film. In some movies you could hear if some of the audio was done in the studio but, to actually see how it could be hard to go over the exact scenes again, and matching your words with the actors lips so it syncs perfectly. I did enjoy this trip, and I would definitely be coming back again. Also, because the tour guide said they filmed OITNB: Orange is the new black across the street in Astoria Studios.
